DIVORCE MEDIATION
Virtually every county in the state of Illinois requires parties of a divorce case to submit to mediation regarding custody and visitation issues. Mediation is an alternate dispute resolution tool which engages a third party professional, usually an attorney, to act as an independent intermediary to assist parties in reaching reasonable settlement of their child related issues. Although it is not required by the courts, mediation is also an effective method to resolve financial issues in divorce cases. Typically anything said in mediation is confidential, meaning it cannot be used in court, and unless otherwise agreed, mediation is non-binding.
